Forgive to Release Burden

In the midst of deep pain, forgiveness can be really really difficult. I bet we all know this feeling well. I have been in several situations that have angered or hurt me to the point where I thought I would never be able to let them go. But, with some work, we all learn to release things. The beauty of letting these things go is that these hurts no longer have power over us and our daily lives.

Thanks to mediation, a philosophy I have been using lately is to ask myself, “do you really want to carry this burden? Will it be worth the effort?” Most of the time the answer is Hell No. Of course, none of those feelings serve you, but there are situations in which things will matter and they will hurt and the hurt will last. These are special situations that will require your effort, especially if they deal with traumatic events.

But, for most things, try asking yourself if it is worth the burden. If it isn’t, just move on so that you can get back to being you.
