It’s odd / interesting that we have trouble feeling adequate. It seems that I spend too much of my time second guessing myself or assuring myself that I’m going to be okay.
Example: I’m handed a project at work in which I have to learn so much just to get started, let alone get through it. I am given the basic specs and am told to get busy. My first reaction is usually invigoration…. “Yes! This is going to be awesome and fun.” Then the work sets in and you start to question things or you wonder if you can accomplish the project, but somehow you push through. Eventually you get into strides and enjoy the flow. Before you know it, the next obstacle comes up and that same old resistance pops up again. This seems to be a continuous battle for me.
1. Resistance
2. Push through
3a. Triumph
or
3b. Fail, but give it my all and learn lessons along the way
In the end, it is just fear of learning new things. To counter this, we need to get into better habits of banking our wins more frequently (daily or weekly) by writing them down in a journal.
When faced with massive challenges, I run through a few of my wins
- Overcoming too many family deaths and living through it
- Working through major issues in my marriage that almost led to divorce
- Getting my diploma, associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree (these are no small feats)
- Effectively raising good kids to the absolute best of my ability
- Showing up daily and excelling at work
- Staying mindful to get better and better at my goals, even if they aren’t up to my standards yet
- Continuing to work at the most important relationships in my life
If you are reading this, you have to know that you are doing great. You have pushed past the fear. You have survived. You were given the privilege of another day. Bank that as another win and embrace this day with all of the intention possible.
