Hills and Valleys

In the mystery of life, we all live on hills and valleys or the high and low points. The high points feel great and you feel like you can coast in this feeling for life. That never happens. You often hit some low points. That’s okay. It’s normal. The good news is that when you hit some low points, you have a chance to learn and reflect about how you can make things better next time. The key is your awareness of the learning opportunity.

During my periods of burnout at work, for example, I learned a few extremely valuable lessons:

  1. I learned my limits of how I let external forces control parts of my life
  2. I learned what is truly important (and it ain’t work)

We need to train ourselves to embrace the low points in life with grace and understanding. And, instead of avoiding the discomfort of the situation, step outside of yourself and view it through a lens of opportunities to learn.
