In late December, I committed to writing a blog post every day. After 73 blog posts, I wanted to share some of the things I have noticed about the process and of myself.
- I’ve lowered my expectations for the writing process and just have fun.
- I am generally not a creative soul. Although, with writing, I don’t ever have to think about subjects to write about. I just start writing and see what happens and creativity flows.
- Since this task must be done every day, I don’t hesitate to start writing. I just do it.
- The editing is the lengthiest part of the process. No matter how well I think I wrote the first draft, I spend so much time editing.
- I learn more every day and work to craft better posts.
- I write with the intent of spreading useful information that someone can use to better their lives (including my own).
- Not every post is good enough for my standards. Some days just don’t flow and that’s okay. Regardless of quality, I still deliver one post per day.
After reflecting on the process of writing, I have to say that I really enjoy it on most days. It is not easy, but growth never is. I don’t know if writing will always be in my daily practices, but self-improvement will always be a part of my life and, for now, writing is helping me to build better habits, which is important to me. Reaching for goals and practicing self-improvement is what keeps me actively pursuing life.
