Life continuously happens around you and how you react to things is what defines the quality of your life.
When you react, are you doing it from a place of ego or your true Self? The ego is the endless mind chatter, the body of pain, the stuck emotions from the past, etc. The ego will never be quenched and always feels hurt and will react to the smallest little things. It will hold on to grudges and stay angry at the world for happening.
But, you are your Self (capitail S). Self is constant and steady and is unwavering. The Self has no room for grudges or anger, but is unending love.
If you don’t know what I am talking about, I have a challenge for you. Put on some soft music with no lyrics and close your eyes. You will come face to face with your ego. It’s easy to spot because it never stops talking to you. The Self is also easy to spot because it is the listener to this mind chatter and it doesn’t speak incessantly.
If you want to remind yourself of who you really are, be the listener of the mind chatter more and more each day. It’s not easy to live like this at first. But, the practice of listening lessens the power that your thinking mind has over you. Spiritual freedom is part of the goal in life (at least one of mine). It requires practice and patience, but is more than worth the effort. The alternative is to continue to listen to the contracting, hot mess that is your ego.
