Rich in Spirit

I thought I might mix it up a little and talk about money. People like to avoid this subject completely, even if they have enough of it. Either you don’t have enough and maybe you feel shame or you have plenty and feel shame for having it when others don’t. I don’t know many people that are content with the amount of money they have. Not everyone falls into these buckets of course, but I think you can relate.

We all want more money for the promise of freedom, convenience, and “security” in our lives, but when we feel shame around earning more we block ourselves from getting what we want. This has been true for me as well. I can look back at my views about money as a child and young adult and realize that my thoughts on the subject were negative in lots of ways. I always heard the lines, “They aren’t rich. They just have big bills” or “We will always be poor.” Reflecting on what this sounds like as a kid, you think it’s impossible to be wealthy or it’s an unwanted thing. As an adult, reflecting back, I just think: “wow, it sounds horrible to live with that mindset. I empathize with the frustration you must have felt.”

Whatever situation you are in, you must get over it because this isn’t just about money. It’s about your value or worth to this world. Those that are less financially affluent and are rich in spirit are honestly living the dream. Those that are poor in spirit, regardless of your financial affluence, are living a life of misery.

We all want to achieve the emotion of what we think we will feel when we have more money. When you purchase anything, you do so for an emotion. That emotion may revolve around security, joy, etc. Whatever that emotion is, in order to hold onto that emotion, you have to make a choice to do so in ways that don’t revolve around money. When you can train yourself to invoke gratitude without material, you can live a rich life and the byproducts of feeling gratitude will include a boost in your finances because people will enjoy being around you and are willing to pay for your products or services. When the conditions are right, we will manifest our desires. These conditions will rarely be right while you live in a world of lack.

Your worth and your emotions is what all of this boils down to. Any of that shame you may be feeling about money is directly related to what you think you are worth or the result of how you think society views your financial situation. For insecurities about how you are viewed, it boils down to you seeking external validation, which is never the answer. For issues with your worth, that is a bigger issue that you will probably be working on for life, but this is our most important work. It is why we show up every day and persist, reflect, and grow.

Many people feel like they are always on the edge of catastrophe and fail to trust in God or the universe. Providence always finds a way to present itself to you in one way or another.

Let’s go on this journey together. I’m here with you.
