#2: The Law of Giving
Deepak mentions in this chapter that the law could also be called the Law of Giving and Receiving. Meaning, if you have a desire / goal / dream to fulfill, you have to give that to someone else.
Practicing the Law of Giving is actually very simple: if you want joy, give joy to others; if you want love, learn to give love; if you want attention and appreciation, learn to give attention and appreciation; if you want material affluence, learn help others become materially affluent
p30-31
This law makes sense to me. If you practice giving love to others, eventually you will feel that emotion more fluently. You’ll be able to draw up that emotion when it is needed. If you give more attention to your spouse, for example, you will get some very obvious rewards. And, if you teach someone a skill that you have with the intent of bettering them, you get the reward of helping someone and feeling the joy from seeing their success.
Here are Deepak’s suggestions for the practice of this law:
- Wherever I go, and whoever I encounter, I will bring them a gift
You can give someone a material gift (like a flower), a smile, a kind gesture, compliment, well wishes, a prayer, etc - Be grateful to receive all the gifts that life has to offer
Be grateful for your warm bed or house, your relationships, etc. And, you need to be willing and open to receive gifts from others. - Make a commitment to keep wealth circulating
Continue to share your gifts and your positive intentions and emotions with people to make this world a more abundant place.
How are you going to make the world a better place? By giving your gifts to the world? The rewards will be given back to you if you are willing to receive them openly and with gratitude.
