This is the question I asked myself at the gym this morning. I felt like I was just going through the motions of the workout without any intention or thought. I just wanted to get through the workout to just get done and go home. Once I asked this question, I had no choice but really think about why I would even bother waking up so early just to have a mediocre workout. The result is that I lifted heavier weights and added more reps. Also, instead of doing my normal walking pace, I jogged some of the laps.
When I placed my consciousness on the task at hand and gave that task purpose, I felt more connected with the practice.
